As part of the Italian Space Agency’s AGILE
scientific programme, Telespazio is responsible
for the ground segment and the mission management
and control activities, during both the launch
and early operation phase (LEOP)
and the operational phase.
Under the AGILE programme, Telespazio
has built and will run the Satellite Control
Centre (SCC), including the Flight Dynamics
Centre (FDC), and the Mission Control
Centre (MCC), all based at the Telespazio
Space Centre in Fucino (Italy).
Telespazio has also upgraded the ASI’s Telemetry,
Tracking and Control (TT&C) station in Malindi
(Kenya), and has expanded the ASINet network,
the ASI’s communications infrastructure
that provides connectivity between the three
ground segment sites: the Fucino SCC, the
TT&C in Kenya and the Scientific Data Centre
in Frascati, near Rome.

The AGILE Satellite Control Centre manages
all the functions necessary to control
the satellite. The Centre will manage
the various phases of the mission during
both nominal and contingent operations.
The SCC will also monitor the operational
status of the equipment at the TT&C station
in Malindi.
Via its Flight Dynamics Centre (FDC),
it will support the mission operations
as regards the orbit position and attitude.
Performance will also be monitored. This
will include the computation of attitude
manoeuvres for pointing the satellite
in the direction set by the scientific
targets, as well as managing the stellar
sensor.
The AGILE Mission Control Centre represents
the interface between the ground segment
and the ASI’s Scientific Data Centre (ASDC).
Its purpose will be to support the scientific
part of the mission, through the collection
of requests for scientific observations,
their planning and implementation, and
the distribution of observations.
