About Colorado and other rivers in the world
.Following construction of Hoover Dam (1935) and Glen Canyon Dam (1964), little or no water from the Colorado river flowed to the Gulf of California . (read more about the history of Colorado river delta on the University of Arizona website).
The Yellow River dries up before it reaches the sea on an increasing number of days each year, some 200 in 1997. Annual flow at the delta during 1986-94 was half what it was in the previous decade. Research has shown that upstream development and diversions, and the success of programmes of water and soil retention in the middle reaches, are responsible, and that climate change is not a significant factor. Monitoring water with satellites
Satellite images can fruitfully support river related emergencies such as floods. Telespazio supports civil protection agencies with a near real time mapping of flooded areas; this is accomplished by processing Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) missions which ensure all weather, day/night operations.
