Respond
(Humanitarian Global Mapping Services)
Respond is an alliance of European and International
organizations working with the humanitarian community
to improve access to maps, satellite imagery and geographic
information (Respond Consortium, 2005).
As explicitly stated by the project consortium,
the objects of Respond are:
- Guaranteed access to global mapping
- Access to an archive of detailed base mapping, imagery and thematic mapping
- Access to rapid assessment maps for major crisis
- Familiarity - using maps and imagery will be as familiar and routine as using a word processor
The service provided will therefore include global base
mapping and imagery, updated information of hot spots,
information on emerging crisis.
Telespazio collaborates with the International NGO
InterSOS providing mapping services at two different
levels of detail:
- basic level
- thematic mapping service
Telespazio also provides a service of spotting of refugee
camps to monitor the migrant population movements and growth.
