Smoke blanketing Buenos Aires
Started on April 10th , grassland fires from the Parana river basin generated a thick smoke blanket that completely covered the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires; authorities had to close some airports and major highways and hospital registered increasing complains of sore throats and eyes.
Even if pastures are extremely dry in this season, fires are not coincidental but they are being blamed on farmers clearing the land.
The MODIS image shows the smoke stretching for thousands of Km in Atlantic Ocean and up to brasilian coast.
In the false colour image, grassland fires which are responsible for the smoke can be spotted as small red dots on the left side of Parana river, north of Buenos Aires
