Telespazio to build the new mobile satellite network of Italy’s Fire Brigade service

Telespazio has signed an agreement with Italy’s Interior Ministry to build and operate a mobile satellite network for the national Fire Brigade service.
The new system integrates and expands the Fire Brigade SkyplexNet satellite network, already in operation across the whole country, which was recently utilised successfully during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

The Fire Brigade will have a fleet of new vehicles able to reach any location – even in the event of an emergency or disaster – and to communicate with the Operations Centre of the Interior Ministry through a broadband satellite connection. This system can provide services including video recording, images and data transmission, multi-party video communications and internet access.
The new satellite network built by Telespazio with Alcatel Alenia Space, strengthens the Fire Brigade service’s communications system, which already connects the Ministry of Interiors Operations Centre with all the regional and district Operations Centres. Furthermore, it is interoperable with the satellite system of the Piedmont Civil Protection creating a new model of integrated communications networks.
