Telespazio and Regione Abruzzo sign agreement to build the Galileo Control Centre at Fucino
|

The president of the Region of Abruzzo Ottaviano del Turco, Telespazio CEO Giuseppe Veredice and the chairman of the Avezzano industrial development Consortium Evelina Torrelli today signed an agreement for the construction, by 2008, of the infrastructure that will house the Control Centre for the Galileo satellite navigation programme at the Fucino Space Centre.

As a result of this contract, which follows
the Framework Agreement signed on 16 December
2005 between the Region and Finmeccanica
aimed at furthering industrial development
and growth in Abruzzo, Telespazio’s “Piero
Fanti” Centre will be upgraded.
The Centre was last year designated as one
of the two Constellation Mission Control
Stations for Galileo.
The Region of Abruzzo
will provide EUR 10 million to finance the
construction of the new infrastructure,
which will cover an area of approximately
4,000 square metres, and will be built by
the Avezzano industrial development Consortium.
